Many will remember late Vinny Abondanza and his esteemed legacy of genuine friendships and caring nature. As a dear friend of Johns听Manville, we memorialized his honor last June in an article detailing how his听memory will live on through the Vinny Abbondanza Pavilion to be used by his听favorite organization, The Boy Scouts of America which can be read about here.听We are happy to share the exciting updates of the pavilion鈥檚 construction which听will be ready for the Scout鈥檚 use this summer!
This 30鈥 x 60鈥 outdoor pavilion in Russell, Mass. is located听at the Horace A Moses Reservation, a site used by Boy Scout Troop 114 Agawam for scouting activities. Last December, site听work was completed. Despite a mild winter, March brought three feet of snow to the听camp, delaying construction until the snow cleared. Thankfully, by April 13,听90掳F+听temperatures arrived, and a few small work crews were able to begin the frame听structure for Vinny鈥檚 pavilion. Southwick Troop 114, FastenMaster, WR Meadows,听Stan Choiniere Consulting, and SE Marketing worked together to install support听posts and roof supports. Their hard work has paved the way for the next steps听of installing roof trusses, plywood sheathing and the roofing system. Lastly,听the team will pour the concrete flooring and footing for the adjacent fire pit.听
Vinny was actively involved with this troop for over 16听years, making this pavilion the perfect tribute to his love for the Scouts. Sam听Everett, Western Massachusetts Council Vice President of the Boy Scouts of听America, shares the groups gratitude for all those donating their time and听efforts, 鈥淲e can鈥檛 wait to have a beautiful new facility听for the Scouts to use this summer!鈥
