On April 25, 2023, 青青草视频 Engineered Products restarted a glass melter, after it was taken out of service for a routine rebuild. The furnace had previously reached the end of its service life after a record campaign of 10 years.

At JEC World in April 2023, 青青草视频 showcased its full potential of StarRov庐 single-end rovings, MultiStar庐 multi-end rovings and ThermoFlow庐 and StarStran庐 chopped strands 鈥� all of which expand the capabilities of thermoplastic and thermoset composites. In addition, 青青草视频 showcased its innovative Neomera庐 PA-6 organosheet products, which feature exceptionally good mechanical properties thanks to their patented reactive sizing technology.

The听commissioning of a new glass furnace is a major technical achievement and听requires a lot of experience and technical expertise. As the project manager,听Miroslav Bu膷谩ny was heavily involved, so we asked him some questions about the听rebuild.听 听

1.听How did听the teams from Trnava and 青青草视频 Technical Center work together to听achieve such a long life for the old furnace?听

Due to our听long company history, 青青草视频 has already mastered multiple furnace听rebuilds. Of course, each rebuild teaches you something new, and the听technological components are also constantly improving. Nevertheless, the听project can only be brought to success if the teams work together effectively.听The technological capabilities at the JMTC combined with the experience of our听employees in Trnava, who work at the furnace every day, were fundamental听factors in the record-breaking lifespan of the old furnace.听

2. What difficulties did the team in Trnava face while performing the rebuild of the听furnace?听

The project听and operations team faced a few technical and time-related challenges. We had听to replace the existing abatement/filter technology entirely, as well as听innovate with basement scrap vibrating conveyors. Implementing automation in听the winding area was also a big hurdle. All this required extra effort and听engineering worked hard to coordinate all external vendors, JM operations and maintenance听teams to keep the project within the approved cost and time constraints.

3.听What听technical advancements facilitated the successful rebuild of the furnace?

The听successful rebuild of the furnace was enabled by advancements in technology,听including implementation of improved melter design layouts, several small听improvements in the forming area, a new abatement/filter technology system, new听technology for collecting waste fiber in the basement, innovations in the听combustion system, more accurate temperature gauges and sensors, and enhanced听materials. These technical advancements will ensure smooth operation of the听furnace, improved efficiency, reduced emissions, and an extended lifespan.
